Medical Interpretation

Why In-Person Interpretation Makes a Difference.

Phone lines and translation apps can't read body language, tone, or the fear on a patient's face. Being there in person means I can facilitate real understanding — not just word swaps.

More Than Just Words

Medical interpretation isn't about swapping English words for Spanish words — it's about making sure a patient truly understands what their doctor is telling them, and that the doctor truly understands what the patient is trying to say.

That means paying attention to tone, emotion, cultural context, and the things that don't get said out loud.

Being physically present lets me pick up on when a patient is nodding because they're confused but don't want to slow things down. It lets me ask clarifying questions, slow the conversation down when needed, and make sure both sides truly connect — not just exchange sounds.

A phone interpreter can translate words. An in-person interpreter can bridge cultures, read the room, and make sure nothing important is missed — including what's not being said.

My Approach / What You Can Expect

Professional & Prepared

I arrive on time, dressed appropriately, and ask for context ahead of time so I understand the setting and what to expect.

Neutral & Confidential

I facilitate without opinions or taking sides. Everything discussed in the room stays completely confidential.

Culturally Sensitive

I understand cultural dynamics specific to Chicago's Hispanic communities and adapt my communication to make patients feel comfortable.

Thorough & Patient

I don't rush. I take the time to ensure complete understanding — and I ask for clarification or slow things down when needed.
